FAQs

How long does it take to design a website?
Most small to medium business websites take 4-8 weeks. Simple sites can take 2-3 weeks, while complex e-commerce platforms or custom applications in Birmingham may take 3-6 months depending on content readiness and feedback speed.

Do I need a web designer or can I just use Wix/Squarespace?
DIY builders are great for simple hobbies, but professional web designers offer custom solutions, better SEO setup, unique branding, and ongoing support. It is an investment that typically pays for itself through better results.

What's the difference between web design and web development?
Design focuses on the visual appearance and user experience (how it looks), while development handles the technical coding and functionality (how it works). Most Birmingham professionals handle both.

What should I look for when hiring a web designer?
Check their portfolio for similar projects, read reviews, ensure they understand your industry, and confirm they provide mobile-responsive designs and post-launch support.

How do I know if a web designer is good?
Look for consistent 5-star reviews, a diverse portfolio, clear communication, and professional branding. Trust your instincts—if they are hard to reach before you hire them, it rarely improves afterward.

Will my website work on mobile phones?
Yes. In 2026, mobile-responsive design is a non-negotiable standard. Your Birmingham designer will ensure the site adapts for smartphones, tablets, and desktops automatically.

Can a web designer help with SEO?
Most include basic technical SEO (page structure, meta tags, speed). However, ongoing strategy, content optimisation, and link building typically require an SEO specialist.

What if I need changes after the website is built?
Most designers include minor tweaks at launch. For ongoing changes, you can hire your original designer for updates, learn to use the CMS yourself, or pay for a maintenance package.

Who will own my website and content?
You should own your website, domain, hosting, and all content after final payment. Ensure this is clearly stated in your contract before signing.

Do I need to provide content or will the designer write it?
This varies. Some include copywriting, others charge extra (£50–£150 per page). Having your text and images ready before design begins prevents delays.

How much should I budget for website maintenance?
Expect £20–£200 per month for basic updates, security patches, and backups. Comprehensive packages include content updates and performance optimisation.

What happens if I'm not happy with the design?
Reputable designers work in stages with feedback rounds. You'll see wireframes or mockups early on, and most include 2-3 revision rounds to ensure you are thrilled with the result.

What makes a great website?

I have a simplified design style, I believe design should work with content, not dominate it. The same can be said for how I build websites. I like to keep my website markup clean and optimised for search engines. I believe usability is an integral part of the design and development process and something I’m constantly striving to improve.

What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?

Are there any websites you have seen that you like the look off or any aspects you like?

If you're local, do you want to meet for a coffee and go over the details?

What do you love most about your job?

I believe freelancing is more of a lifestyle than a job and I’m in it for the long run.

Why should our clients choose you?

A close personal working relationship and more understanding service

Flexibility
I do try to stick to my office hours 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday, however I am flexible, you’ll find that if you email me Friday afternoon with a list of amendments, chances are they will be done and ready for your return to work on Monday morning.
Quick turn-around
I have a quicker start and fast turn-around time, as I usually only work on a couple of projects at any one time. This mean you will be a priority, whatever your website size or complexity.

Personal service
Any enquiries, questions and uncertainties you may have are all answered by me, not a salesperson or account manager. However if I am with another client, I do have a lovely person who answers my phone to take a message. These get sent directly to me, straight away, wherever I am. A close designer-client relationship means that I have a much better understanding of your goals and requirements, producing fewer errors and invariably a better end result.

Experience
I have experience with lots of different kinds of business and knowledge spanning a wide variety of industries. Whether you are a blogger, an airline, or in a field I am yet to come across, I am able to use my experience, learning from you, to achieve the best outcome for you.

Value for money
I work hard, have lower running costs and overheads than an agency, this gets passed on, you receive much better value for money.

Collaboration
I listen to your requirements, so I can deliver what’s is right for you. I like to work one on one and collaborate during every stage, using open communication and feedback, to build your perfect website.

Efficiency
I have been a freelance web designer & developer for the majority of my working life, I quickly learned that the phrase ‘time is money’ is often true. I work quickly and efficiently, managing my time effectively to ensure that I can produce the best work for you, within your timescale.

One of my clients wrote a review that summed all of this perfectly
"Everyone needs a Tim!"
