Whether you need mental health support, couples therapy, bereavement counselling or help managing anxiety and depression, Bark can help you find qualified psychotherapists and counsellors across the UK.
Just tell us what support you're looking for and your location, and we'll connect you with experienced professionals so you can compare profiles, read reviews and choose the right fit.
Psychotherapists and counsellors can provide a range of therapeutic services, such as:
Most therapists offer sessions in person, online via video call, or by telephone depending on your preference.
You might consider booking a psychotherapist when:
Seeking therapy is a positive step towards better mental health and emotional wellbeing.
When comparing psychotherapists, check their qualifications and professional registrations such as BACP, UKCP or BABCP accreditation. Look at their approach and specialisms to ensure they match your needs.
Consider whether you prefer in person or online sessions. Read reviews from previous clients and trust your instincts about who feels like the right fit. Bark lets you explore several local psychotherapist profiles so you can find someone who matches your needs and budget.
Bark's research shows that psychotherapy and counselling session costs vary by location, experience and session length. Standard one hour sessions typically range from £40 to £75.
Therapists in London may charge £50 to £100 per session, whilst sessions outside major cities often cost £35 to £60. Some therapists offer sliding scale fees based on income, and initial consultations are sometimes offered at reduced rates or free of charge.
Qualified therapists in the UK should be registered with professional bodies such as BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy) or BABCP (British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies).
Check their profile for accreditation details, qualifications and years of experience. All reputable therapists carry professional indemnity insurance and adhere to ethical guidelines and confidentiality requirements.
The number of sessions varies depending on your needs and therapeutic approach. Some people benefit from short term therapy of 6 to 12 sessions, particularly with structured approaches like CBT.
Others may work with a therapist for several months or longer for deeper work or complex issues. Many therapists offer an initial assessment to discuss your goals and recommend a treatment plan. You're not locked into a set number and can discuss progress as you go.
Hello, I’m Clare owner and founder of Eaton Psychotherapy. I am an experienced and fully accredited CBT therapist and my aim is to support you to recover from the difficulty you are experiencing so that you can get back to feeling like yourself and enjoying your life to the fullest. I have worked in adult mental health since 2014 and have 9 years of private, local authority and NHS experience combined. I offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and EMDR depending on what you are currently struggling with, I am passionate about these approaches and have experienced personally and professionally the transformative effect they can have on people’s lives. If you would like more information about CBT or EMDR please check out my website: https://eatonpsychotherapy.co.uk I understand that feeling low and anxious can feel like an overwhelming and really difficult place to be, but you do not need to struggle with these feelings on your own, I would love to be able to support you to get back to feeling like yourself. If you are struggling with low mood, anxiety, or as a result of a traumatic experience you have been through and would like to reach out to me for an appointment please get in touch. I understand that feedback from clients can be really helpful when choosing a therapist. Please check out my google business page for reviews from clients that I have worked with.
I love being able to work together with clients to gain an understanding of themselves within the context of the difficulty they are experiencing and breaking each part of the cycle down and treating each area. I find it really fulfilling to see clients feeling happier and making changes as therapy progresses.
I love that CBT and EMDR are therapeutic approaches that allow for exploration and are also very practical in terms of reducing symptoms and reaching a particular goal.
I think the approach I take provides clients with a great opportunity to improve their mental health within therapy and beyond.
My approach is a goal focussed one which prioritises gaining an understanding of the problem you are experiencing within a supportive and empathetic environment and treating the problem through evidence-based interventions so that you are able to reach your goals and feel happier overall.
I recognise that having an understanding as to why certain thoughts feeling and behaviours are occurring is a really important part of the therapeutic process, this knowledge increases awareness of unhelpful cycles and allows us to be kinder to ourselves as we move towards improving our mental health. I also believe that learning skills within therapy that you can take forward to manage difficulties in the future is a central part of the process and my aim would be for you to learn to be your own therapist.
I understand that feedback from clients can be really helpful when choosing a therapist. Please check out my google business page for reviews from clients that I have worked with.
Yes, I can provide services online via zoom or face-to-face depending on your preference.

My husband and I came to John at a turning point in our marriage and it was not going down a good road. With John’s help, patience and understanding, he gave us the tools to get to a place where our marriage has been in the best shape it’s ever been. We were able to make progress each week, with the exercises and advice that John gave and we are eternally grateful for getting us back from the road to divorce. John is relatable and truly understands how men and women work, so that we can work together in a way that compliments one another. Thank-you

I found Tolis to have helped me a lot when I started my sessions with him. He seemed very kind, interested in finding out the cause of my ‘distress’, and always a good counsel. It’s very difficult to open myself up to others, but Tolis managed to build that trust that was needed for me to be honest with myself. I would highly recommend him, thank you!
